Fair play
What it's about
Children meet fairness and unfairness every day in games. This manner is about including others, playing by the rules and saying sorry. Ask about recess this week: “Did anyone get left out? What did you do?” Listen first; there is no wrong answer to talk about.
What Allah says
O ye who believe! Let not some men among you laugh at others: It may be that the (latter) are better than the (former): Nor let some women laugh at others: It may be that the (latter are better than the (former): Nor defame nor be sarcastic to each other, nor call each other by (offensive) nicknames: Ill-seeming is a name connoting wickedness, (to be used of one) after he has believed: And those who do not desist are (indeed) doing wrong.
Allah teaches the believers not to mock one another. Including everyone, playing fair and saying sorry keep friendships strong.
A hadith is waiting for the asatizah to confirm the reference and grading before it is shown here.
Things to talk about
- How do you think Ravi felt before Danial came over, and after?
- Your team is losing, and your friend wants to change the rules so you win. What would you do?
- A classmate trips in the canteen, and some children laugh. What would you do?
- You bump into a friend and spill their drink. What would you do?
- Allah tells the believers not to make fun of one another. Why do you think that matters?
Every family is different
Every family is different. Some children live with one parent, with grandparents, with a step-parent or with a guardian. Whoever cares for your child, the same love and good manners apply: change “Mama” and “Abah” in the stories to the people in your child's life.
