Made to know one another

For people of every race and country. Draft: not yet checked.

What it's about

Singapore is a good place to see that people come in many colours, languages and cultures. This manner is about curiosity and respect instead of teasing, and about caring for people in other countries. A map or a globe at home makes it easy to come back to all week.

What Allah says

O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each other (not that ye may despise (each other). Verily the most honoured of you in the sight of Allah is (he who is) the most righteous of you. And Allah has full knowledge and is well acquainted (with all things).

Al-Hujurat 49:13 · English: Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Allah made us into peoples and tribes so we may know one another. No one is better because of their colour or their country: what matters with Allah is a good heart that is mindful of Him.

Things to talk about

  • How do you think the class felt when they saw the map full of stickers?
  • Someone says a new classmate from another country “talks funny”. What would you do?
  • A new classmate brings food you have never seen before. What would you do?
  • You see news about children far away who need help. What would you do?
  • Allah made people into nations and tribes so that we may get to know one another. Why do you think Allah made us so different?

Every family is different

Every family is different. Some children live with one parent, with grandparents, with a step-parent or with a guardian. Whoever cares for your child, the same love and good manners apply: change “Mama” and “Abah” in the stories to the people in your child's life.
